RADIO BRISTOL INTERVIEW
(Posted 29th March 2010)
Tim went to BBC Radio Bristol early yesterday morning to speak about Changing Tunes on Trevor Fry's Sunday show. As well as painting a picture of our work and the effect it has on those involved, he talked about the challenges we face in the current target-driven system, and highlighted our response to this - the Close To The Edge campaign. Two tracks were played from our CD "Redemption Songs".

In response to overwhelming demand, Saturday 20th February 2010 will see a repeat performance of September's Beatles tribute. The first event was arranged to help David, a regular singer at Changing Tunes concerts, acheive a life-long ambition to put on a show of Beatles songs for his friends. The idea took off, and in September we played for two hours to a packed hall in Clifton. It was a fantastic night and the band were shocked to receive two standing ovations from an audience that were clearly there for a good time. The gig generated a huge buzz and we've been swamped by requests to do it again so people can bring friends along. To satisfy demand we've booked a 400 seat venue for this second event and we'll be upping our game to make the whole show bigger and better than the first. This will be the first ever Changing Tunes ticketed event and all proceeds will fund our work both in Bristol prison and with local ex-prisoners. Expect your favourite songs, including all the hits from every Beatles album, making this an outstanding event you won't want to miss. We expect tickets to sell very quickly and advise booking soon to avoid disappointment.

Changing Tunes is proud to launch our latest album ‘Redemption Songs’.
All the songs on this CD are original compositions by prisoners and ex-prisoners we have worked with. They share themes of redemption, forgiveness, wholeness and yearning. Some are inspired by religious conviction, others by the emotional upheaval of life in prison, with deep regrets and struggles, but also the hope of change. They were performed by prisoners and ex-prisoners and accompanied by Changing Tunes musicians and some friends.

The quality and power of these songs was of such high standard that we decided to record them to broadcast quality, allowing you to enjoy them in all their glory. Sit back and listen to a range of songs that really will delight, move and amaze you. They also make great Christmas presents!

To order send a cheque (£10 per CD) made out to Changing Tunes with your name, address and email address to: Changing Tunes, PO Box 2646, Bristol, BS6 9BU.

A song from our forthcoming release "Redemption Songs" has beed selected for use with an online advent calendar! i-Church.org have put together an interactive calendar with music, poetry and other art forms which they use to reflect on the different themes of Christmas and advent. Somewhere In The Darkness, a song written by a prisoner and performed by ex-prisoners and Changing Tunes musicians is hidden behind one of the doors.

If you've been to a Changing Tunes concert in the last couple of years it's likely you will have seen David singing "Blackbird", something by the Moody Blues or one of his own songs. He is a regular performer at our concerts and fundraising events and has given a huge amount back to Changing Tunes through his dedication and talent.

He is currently part-way through a 600 mile bike ride from Lands End to St Davids to raise funds for Serenity House, another local organisation who have helped in his recovery and rehabilitation. This is a huge acheivement for David and if you would like to show your support please click here to visit his Just Giving page to make a donation.

With the bike ride done and dusted, and after a good sit down, David will be taking to the stage with Changing Tunes musicians and other friends for our Beatles concert on 26th September, which promises to be an excellent night out and a chance to see David at his best.
