Prison Concerts and Post Release Session recordings

My Life Story (acoustic rap, Changing Tunes Recipient)

“I wrote this song a year ago when I was in the (prison) block. It's about the ups and downs in life and about the wrong path that I chose because it was what was expected of me due to the criminal lives that my brothers lead. I have now changed my life around and found Changing Tunes. Now, when I play ‘My life story’ it reminds me of where I went wrong in life and to never come back to prison. Many thanks to Changing Tunes! Music is life!”

Should’ve Been Different (acoustic ballad piano/guitar)

“This song is about falling in love with someone and not being able to be with them. I wrote it at a difficult time in my life, drawing on influences like Lewis Capaldi and Adele. I couldn't have composed this music without Changing Tunes.”

Don't Know (acoustic band)

The First Time’ is an uplifting song about a deeply human experience. The participant who wrote and recorded ‘The First Time’ describes the inspiration behind the track: “I created this tune because I fell in love and I wanted to express how I felt at the time.”

The First Time (reggae band)

The participant who wrote and recorded ‘Don’t Know’ describes the relatable themes explored in this song and their creative process. “Don't Know’ is about a lost love, what might have been and the hope of what could still be. I was playing around with chords on a guitar, with these things in mind and the words followed. The verse was written quickly and the rest of the song came over a period of time. Sometimes the words come first, other times the tune. It doesn't matter which. Just open your mind, and write songs. Be creative. You're unique.”

SHORT FILMS ABOUT OUR WORK

Introducing Changing Tunes

The Power of Music

On 12th November 2022, we held a concert at The Elmgrove Centre in Bristol. Over 130 people attended, creating a warm and supportive audience for our participants, many of whom had never performed in front of such a large audience before. We spoke to some of the performers backstage to find out more about what Changing Tunes means to them.

HMP/YOI Swinfen Hall

In November 2020 in the midst of the Coronvirus pandemic, Changing Tunes were invited to play a series of gigs at HMP & YOI Swinfen Hall.
